CAN AM GALLERY [2]

The Porsche 917 PA (4994 cc, 580 hp, 775 kg) was the Stuttgart based ...

...
sportscar manufacturer´s first entry in CanAm Racing driven by
Swiss
Grand Prix ace Jo Siffert.

In
1971 Siffert drove this privately entered Porsche 917/10 with a
normally-
aspirated engine of 4999 cc, 630 hp and 740 kg. The car was
sponsored by
STP Oil Treatment and Marlboro.

After
Siffert´s fatal crash in a non-worldchampionship Formula 1 race
in
autumn the car was sold to German transportation millionaire and
Porsche
test driver Willi Kauhsen for 1972. Later the car was supplied
with a turbo
engine as the Penske cars in America. Kauhsen drove the European
Interseries and som CanAm races sponsored by Bosch.

In
the 1971 Interseries Porsche 917 Spyders were used by Michel
Weber,
Juergen Neuhaus from Germany and Leo Kinnunen from Finland, who
won
the championship with the car of 4999cc, 630 hp and 780 kg.
