LOTUS FORD 49

Der Lotus Ford 49 war in doppelter Hinsicht ein bemerkenswertes Auto. Er war das erste Fahrzeug, das den berühmten Ford Cosworth DFV V8 Motor verwendete. Und überdies fand dieser Motor noch als tragendes Teil Verwendung, was sehr schnell zum Vorbild für alle anderen Formel 1-Autos wurde. Bei seinem Debut beim Grand Prix von Holland 1967 war der Lotus Ford 49 auf Anhieb erfolgreich, denn Graham Hill stand auf der pole position und Jim Clark gewann das Rennen. Hill gewann mit dem 49, nun gesponsort von der Zigarettenmarke Gold Leaf seine zweite Fahrerweltmeisterschaft 1968.

In a double sense the Lotus Ford 49 was a remarkable car. It was the first Grand Prix car ever to use the famous Ford Cosworth DFV V8 engine. And above all this engine became part of the structure of the car very quickly becoming a model for all the other Formula One cars. At it`s debut in the 1967 Dutch Grand Prix the Lotus Ford 49 had immidiate success with Graham Hill standing on pole position and Jim Clark winning the race. With the 49, now sponsored by cigarette brand Gold Leaf, Hill won his second drivers`worldchampionship in 1968.
