LOTUS FORD 79

Der Lotus Ford 79 war das erste komplette Flügelauto der Geschichte und leitete schon aus diesem Grunde eine Revolution im Bau von Grand Prix Rennwagen ein. In den Seitenkästen brachte Colin Chapman nur noch die Flügelprofile und die Wasserkühler unter, die Tanks wurden auf einen Platz zwischen Cockpit und Motor transferiert. In der Saison 1978 war der Lotus Ford 79 das absolut überlegene Auto. Der Amerikaner Mario Andretti und der Schwede Ronnie Peterson konnten nur durch Defekte oder Unfälle am Siegen gehindert werden.

The Lotus Ford 79 was the first complete wing car in history and for this reason it lead to a revolution in the construction of Grand Prix racing cars. Colin Chapman had put only the aerofoils and the water radiators into the sidepots, the tanks he had transfered between the cockpit and the engine. In the 1978 season the Lotus Ford 79 was the absolutely dominating car. American Mario Andretti and Ronnie Peterson of Sweden only could prevented from winning by technical failures or accidents.
