MERCEDES-BENZ W196

Beim Grand Prix von Frankreich 1954 in Reims kehrte Mercedes Benz mit dem W196 auf die Formel 1-Pisten zurück und feierte sofort einen Doppelsieg. Der W196, den es auch in einer damals noch erlaubten vollverkleideten Version gab, war dann auch das dominierende Auto in den Jahren 1954 und 1955. Juan-Manuel Fangio aus Argentinien wurde jeweils Weltmeister. Sein Auto hatte einen 8-Zylinder-Reihen-Motor mit 2,5 Liter Hubraum und etwa 280 PS. In Aintree 1955 kam es beim Grand Prix von England zum historischen Vierfachtriumph; es siegte Stirling Moss vor Fangio, Kling und Taruffi.

At the French Grand Prix at Reims Mercedes Benz returned to the Formula One tracks with their W196 and at once they were able to celebrate a double victory. The W196, under the existing technical regulations having also got a streamlined version of, was the dominating car in 1954 and 1955. In both the years Juan Manuel Fangio from Argentine became world champion. His car had got an 2.5-litre-engine with 8 cylinders in a row producing about 280 bhp. In 1955 the W196s scored their historic fourtimes victory with Stirling Moss winning ahead of Fangio, Kling and Taruffi.
