BRABHAM ALFA ROMEO DOCUMENTATION [2]
. . . continued

The
Brabham Alfa Romeo BT45, here the B-version of 1977 with John
Watson in the
cockpit was the predecessor of the BT46. The trapezium shape of
the chassis was not
so clear as at the Ford Cosworth powered BT44 versions of 1973 -
1975 because bigger
fuel tanks were needed for the thirsty Alfa Romeo 12 cylinder
engine.

The
flat Alfa Romeo engine reached up to 520 horse powers and was
used both in
the diffrent BT45 and BT46 models.

The
trapezium monocoque of the 1972 Viceroy Special Parnelli
Indy Car; here the original
version with Al Unser sen in the cockpit, had been the example
for M.R.D.´s Gordon
Murray to design his Brabham Grand Prix cars from 1973 to 1978.
The revolutionary
V-shaped tail unit . . .

.
. . had been banned by the stewards during Indianapolis
qualifying to be replaced by
normal wings, here Joe Leonhardt in the sister car called Samsonite
Special .

The
Chaparral Chevrolet 2J group 7 double-seater CanAm racing car of
1970 had got
two ventilators in the rear section, the back was covered
completely by skirts made out
of the sythetic material Lexan.
