

PORSCHE 917
Internally at Porsche, it was called the White Giant. In 1970 and 1971, the 917 won both the worldchampionships. Also in 1970 it secured the first of 16 overall victories at Le Mans with Hans Herrmann and Dick Attwood driving. Other 917 drivers in 1970 & 1971 were Jo Siffert, Pedro Rodriguez, Brian Redman, Rolf Stommelen, Derek Bell, Kurt Ahrens, Reinhold Joest and Willi Kauhsen. The picture above shows the Porsche 917 short back of the Martin Racing Team, that won the 24 Hours Race of Le Mans in 1971 with Austrian Dr Helmut Marko and Dutch Guijs van Lennep in the cockpit, setting up a track record that is update until today.
