INTRODUCTION

The history of Formula 2 had begun shortly after World War II in 1947. This category had got the task, to give those drivers and teams not involved in Grand Prix Racing, the chance to close the gap to the top of international motorsport. In both the years 1952 and 1953 Formula 2 cars were used for the the Grand Prix Worldchampionship. While there had been no Formula 2 Racing available in the years 1961 to 1963, when Formula Junior was the only European single seater class except Formula 1, Formula 2 had been re-established in 1964. From that point on, Formula 2 became the ideal meeting place of novices with the established star drivers. In the years 1964 to 1966 a real Formula 2 circus had been installed with great works entries competing in national championships of Britain, France or Italy with the Temporada in South America in winter. For 1967 the Formula 2 European Championship had been intoduced by the F.I.A. only for so-called B-Drivers. The winner of the European Championship automatically qualified himself for being one of the very rare A-Drivers (only about 30 worldwide). These ones regulaly competed in the great Formula 2 events, for their personal glory, but very often for a good sum of starting money.
