KEKE ROSBERG

Die Skandinavier hatten schon viele Jahrzehnte lang im Rallye-Sport eine fast uneinholbare Spitzenposition inne. Doch Keke Rosberg ist 1982 der erste Automobilweltmeister aus dem Norden Europas überhaupt. Geboren wurde er 1948 in Stockholm, die Eltern studierten noch (der Vater wurde später Zahnarzt), dennoch ist er natürlich ein echter Finne. Keijo, so heisst er mit vollem Namen, begann seine berufliche Laufbahn als Systemanalytiker in der Computerbranche. Da nahm er ein Jahr unbezahlten Urlaub, in der Formel Super V (im Kaimann Team des Wieners Kurt Bergmann) wurde er nach harter Anfangszeit schnell ein Star. Rosberg lebte zu dieser Zeit in Heidelberg nahe Hockenheim und im österreichhischen Zell am See. Mit Teddy Yip (Theodore) und Ron Tauranacs problematischem Ralt Ford kam er 1978 in die Formel 1. Im strömenden Regen gewann er die Daily Express Trophy in Silverstone, dann ersetzte Yip den unfahrbaren Ralt durch einen Wolf Ford aus dem Vorjahr. Zwischendurch bestritt Rosberg auch fünf Grand Prix für ATS. Ab Frühjahr 1979 ersetzte er den zurückgetretenen James Hunt im Wolf-Werksteam. Als dieses ein Jahr später von Fittipaldi aufgekauft wurde, ging Rosberg mit. Nach dem Rücktritt von Alan Jones Ende 1981 verpflichtete ihn Frank Williams als Nummer 2 an der Seite von Carlos Reutemann. Als der Argentinier nach Rio 1982 ebenfalls zurücktrat, diesmal wirklich, da war Rosberg automatisch die Nummer 1 im Williams Team.

1982 war ein aufregendes, oft auch tragisches Jahr. Villeneuve und Paletti starben, Pironi, der Führende in der Weltmeisterschaft, verletzte sich zu Saisonmitte schwer. Die ganze Saison hindurch gab es enorme politische Streitigkeiten, schliesslich gab es elf verschiedene Sieger. Wie Mike Hawthorn reichte Keke Rosberg ein einziger Sieg (Grand Prix der Schweiz in Dijon/Frankreich) zum Titel. Bis 1985 blieb er bei Williams und gewann noch vier weitere Grand Prix, ein Jahr bei McLaren an der Seite von Alan Prost folgte. Nach einer Pause fuhr er Sportwagen für Peugeot und Tourenwagen für Mercedes und Opel. Mit der Deutschen Sina verheiratet, gründete er auch in Deutschland sein eigenes Team für DTM und Formel 3. Sein Sohn Nico war im Winter 2002/2003 der jüngste Fahrer, der, bei Tests in einem Williams BMW, jemals am Steuer eines Grand Prix Rennwagens gewesen war: Mit 17 hat man wirklich noch Träume.

For many decades the Scandinavians already had got a nearly unbeatable top position in rally sport. But in 1982 Keke Rosberg became the first worldchampion in closed circuit racing coming from Northern Europe. He had been born in Swedish Stockholm in the year 1948, his parents had been still studying (his father later became a dentist), but in spite of that he is a real Finn. Keijo, that is his complete name, started his career as a system analyst in the computer business. At that time he had asked for a year of unpaid vacation. In Formula Super Vee (in the team of Kurt Bergmann from Vienna) he became very soon a star after a tough time of beginning. In those days Rosberg lived in Heidelberg near Hockenheim and in Austrian Zell am See. He entered Formula One with Teddy Yip (Theodore) and Ron Tauranac`s problematic Ralt Ford in 1978. In the pouring rain he had won the Daily Express Trophy at Silverstone, then Yip replaced the undrivable Ralt by a Wolf Ford of the year before. Meanwhile Rosberg also took part in five Grand Prix for ATS. From spring 1979 on he replaced retired James Hunt in the works team of Wolf. When that company was bought by Fittipaldi one year later, Rosberg went with them. After Alan Jones` retirement at the end of 1981 Frank Williams signed him up as the team`s number two at the side of Carlos Reutemann. When the Argentinian also retired after Rio 1982, this time really, Rosberg became number one of the Williams team automatically.

1982 was an exciting, often also tragic year. Villeneuve and Paletti died, Pironi, the leader of the worldchampionship, sustained heavy injuries at the middle of the season. Throughout the whole season there had been enormous political quarrells. Finally there were eleven different winners. Like once at Mike Hawthorn a single win (Grand Prix of Switzerland held at French Dijon) was enough for winning the title by Keke Rosberg. Until 1985 he remained at Williams, where he won further four Grand Prix, a year at McLaren followed at the side of Alain Prost. After a break he drove sportscars for Peugeot and touring cars for Mercedes and Opel. Married to German Sina he founded a team of hisown for DTM and Formula 3 also based in Germany. In winter 2002/2003 his son Nico was the youngest driver ever, testing a Williams BMW, behind the steering wheel of a Grand Prix car: At the age of 17 you really have even got dreams.
