Gerard Larrousse from France is one of the great multi-talents in international motor racing. As an active racing automobilist he had competed successfully in rallies, sportscar racing and single seater racing up to driving a Grand Prix car. After retiring from active competition he became the head of the Renault F1 team later to found a Grand Prix team of his own. In the autumn of 1971 he had won the Tour de France rally at the side of his co-driver, French journalist Johnny Rives leading from start to the finish.
